Aerial camera mount |
Question: |
I have been trying to film from a gyroplane (Sony HD 1) for the past 6 months using various home made mounts without success due to excessive camera shake. I have concluded that a gyro stabilized system is the way forward but professional systems are out of my budget range. I am looking for a manufacturer who can supply a 12v powered gyro (preferably UK based) so that I can attempt to construct my own camera platform.
Any help welcome |

I can realize the problem. In the first place you’ve got more never than Jesse James just to get into a flypaper contraception like that, let alone hope to stabilize a mounted camera to it. Just kidding you. It must be quite a thrill. I am interested in filming with the new Sony too, but I don’t know enough to advise anyone. In fact I need advise.
I’m posting to tell you a friend, who sometimes posts on the propulsion site here could build a good three axes gyro stabilizer for you if he were of a mind to. He is particularly suited for it, very much so for several reasons. I expect he might be expensive. You’d have to somehow find a way to contact him and ask him. He lives in your island community. You can read him here.
Glenn,
Oh, I almost for got. I really did. I’m laughing at myself about it, to send a message to contact somebody and not say who. His name is Sandy Kidd.

| | Hi, Bill here of Magic Lantern productions, Greetings ! I'm looking for the same system. I would like to contact the Gyro builder also. I, have a small machine shop, but I, need information on how to drive the Gyros Electrically, I'm building a:
( http://www.sky-line.ca/index.html ) Sky-Line cable cam system. Note the Gyros at the ends of the carriage. I, would like to talk shop with your Builder.... I have experimented with Aircraft Gyros, however they are Vacuum driven, and make noise. This noise can be picked up when we are recording Sync Sound. I was thinking of a Gyro with 12 Volt electric motor, with a Optical Encoder mounted on the end of the shaft, this encoder would pulse electricity to the Gyro motor. A feed back Tachometer would monitor the RPM's I was thinking of using a, " Radio Shack, " " Zip Zap " ( Hobby Car ) Transmitter to send and receive signals. The Gyro would have a Slip ring Commentator to deliver the 12 volts to the Motor, additional rings could be added as well to control other functions. This would be built around Ultra High Speed lubricated bearings. The housing would be fiberglass... Carbon Fiber / Kevlar construction, with a Vacuum inlet to draw off the internal air, and chamber space filled with commercially available Argon.
Thoughts about using ..... Disk Drive Motor
VCR Drive Motor
Floppy Drive Motor
CD Motor .......................?
Looking for any answers... Thank you for your time...... Bill of Magic... Cheers !
