Russian Torpedo Gyroscope |
Question: |
I have inherited a russian gyroscope, my great Uncle was in the Royal Navy at the time of the Russian revolution and was fighting in support of the White Russians in 1919. It is in a wooden case which opens out, once open it appears to have a hand operated pump, and the gyro locks into place conected to what I assume is a drive shaft.
A lever operates what looks like a valve and then disconnects the drive shaft. Am I right in assume it is possible to pump up the reservoir and then spin up the gyro ( assuming everything works ). To my mind the pump and reservoir look to small to the size of the gyro. If it is a pump then I will have ago at getting it working, otherwise I think I will it as is. Any thoughts welcome. |
