Mk 9 Torpedo Gyroscope |
Question: |
I have a torpedo gyroscope, in excellent shape with its casing, that is labeled Mk IX (Mark 9). I have not been able to find out what torpedo it went with, but assuming it went in the Mk 9 torpedos...it would be one of the first types of torpedo / gyro used in WW2. The info I did find one the internet stated WW2 used Mk 9's thru Mk 12's.
Does anyone have information that links the Mk 9 gyro with the torpedos it was used with?
Does anyone know where I can get some info as to what it is worth?
Thanks in advance! |

| | The best my memory serves me is that the gyro you have is from a Mk9 torpedo,
which was driven by copressed air and shale oil, 23ft long and 24" in diameter,
carring a half ton war head of Minol HE.
This torpedo was used extensively on a variety of surface ships mostly destroyers of the Commwealth Forces.
A shorter version called the Mk7 was used in submarines.
My specs my be a little out but thats the best I can remember

| | Randy, if you send me some photos of your gyro, I may be able to help you ID it and its corresponding torpedo. I have a very large collection of INERT, torpedo related artifacts including many different torpedo gyroscopes. Hopefully, I will be able to help out.
