The angle of precession |
Question: |
lets say we have a simple disk gyroscope with a thin spindle, this gyroscope is suspended at one end with a string, the torque caused by gravity will cause the top to precess. Here's the question: As the speed of the wheel decreases due to friction, the angle formed between the spindle and the ground goes from 90 at the start to 0 once the wheel has stopped. Is there a known equation to determine that angle as a function of its angular velocity, its physical attributes, and its starting conditions? |
