At least some people are still working on a solution |
Question: |
It looks like Ted Pittman is still at it (thankfully). Here is a pretty cool video he recently put up where he actually seems to have attached small lights to the machine so you can see the motions as it rotates. This is a pretty ingenious addition if you ask me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjnWQNvjj0s
In the information section it states: "Gyrodisk pivot acceleration is sensed by an onboard encoder and photodiodes which transmit the data to an array of detectors."....... "( Normally the front is enclosed with part of the 360 degree sensor array around the Gyrodisk. )".......... |

| Well, I'm still at it too. I recently finished rebuilding it, and I even went and performed a few experiments.
....Only to find out that, no, connecting the two gyro-arms in the middle with gears doesn't work. In fact, it made it perform a lot worse.
If anyone recalls, I did get some very positive results from my July 8th experiments ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1KtInq4Jo8&hd=1 ), but after we finished analyzing the second clip in that video, we found out the cables going from the machine to the controller in my hand were interfering.
So yeah, if I can get those results again we might have something. But before that I need to rebuild it back to how it once was. That's not hard at all, just an 8mm axle with 2 4mm holes in the right places (I unfortunately took that part apart when I rebuilt it last time).
Just be patient and subscribe to my Youtube channel and you'll at least be in the loop.

| I'm glad you're still working on yours. I had to postpone my project while I start my own small business. Hopefully I will make enough money to properly build a much better version one of these days. Keep up the work!

| Gyronauts,
Sorry about the video link. I had to remove it.
To get the info about telemetry, enter this...

in the Google search window.
I used an RFduino in the Pivot Encoder described in Patent 10482790 B1.
