You've prob. gotten this question dozens of times, and I've looked at your links and am still confused..
First let me say that this is the first time I've even needed a gyro. All I understand about them is the basic concept of how they work from the bike tire experiment in grade school..
Here's what I'm looking for.
A motorized 12 volt sale contained gyroscope to use as stabilization.. I know that some of the older RC helicopter gyros were like this, but I think I might need a slightly larger one.
I need to achieve fluid rotation. (I'm building a camcorder mount that you can run with and still hav ea smooth shot) right now my "steadycam" setup has a ball bering axis so it can rotate on it's own with very little effort.. I want to mount a gyro on it so when your holding onto the handel (axle) the mount won't react to the minor rotational movements of the wrist that occure when you are walking..
From what I'm learned so far, I only need a powered single axis gyro, mounted vertically will controll the horizontal spinning of the camera... but would a second gyro mounted perpendicular to the first, (or a 2 axis gyro) controll vertical movement as well? (keep in min that the camera mount is basically a pole with 10lbs of counter weight on the bottem so the counter weight will dramatically reduce verticle movment, but when your walking since the muscles in the human arm arn't perfect, there will still be verticle movment.. so will a gyro help with this as well?
Cliff notes:
1) Where can I get a 12 volt motorized gyro that will stabilize the rotation of a freely spinning ball-bering mounted 13 lb weight.
2) Can I use a second gyro mounted perpendicular to control vertical movment as well?
2a) OR could I find a 2 axis motorized gyro?

| | | My stabilizer has a minor vertical tilt I wish to fix with a gyro (powered). Dominic's problem is essentially the same as mine but on a different axis. I have searched the web with no luck. I would really like a powered gyro I can mount on my camera stabilizer's (ultralite) vertical plane and also have a variable speed control which would allow more or less force applied to the vertical axis. Of course, this would not be available off the shelf and I would have to fabricate attachment somehow. Sorry Dominic, this post doesn't answer you question but it appears that we're both in the same boat.
