74-75 lect. - large susp. gyro. |
Question: |
I loved the lecture. Have any more? :)
About the large suspended gyro with a changing orbit size:
My assumption is that the axis of inclination was not horizontal at start,
as the gravity pushed down on free end, it precessed,
in doing so, any motion at the supported end would change the nullifying force induced by the string;
as that end moved from center, it had to move up against gravity's direction.
Any thoughts?
I am also looking for an info on astronauts that have taken a gyro in to space to 'play' with.
Thank you. :) (very interesting stuff) |

| | Oops, forgot to add:
once the orbit maxed out, the force on the string end would once again be null,
and as shown in another experiment, the gyro would try to hang with the string straight down.
