Question

Asked by: Laura
Subject: What is this strange old thing that looks like a gyroscope?
Question: Hiya! I have an interesting old 'thing' and wondered if anyone here can tell me what it is? It looks like some sort of gyroscope to me, but beyond that i'm lost! The circumference is about 25.5 inches, and it's about 8 inches tall. Here's a photo:

Any info would be great, i'm rather curious as to what it is! :)

 Hello Laura,

It would appear to be a candleholder, or oil lamp holder to work like a chandelier. It looks very old and may be quite valuable. Don’t check with antique dealer, but an appraiser. Sometimes you see them on TV where you may find how to contact them.

Glenn,

Thanks for your reply! I asked a relative, and they thought it was a candle holder too! I've put it on ebay (i'm more of a sword collector than a gyroscope collector!), just incase you might be interested, here's the URL:
