gyroscope application in pleasure boats |
Question: |
I am an avid boater and for some time, have been giving thought of using gyros on sailboats and mid sized powerboats. The use would be to minimize rolling while anchored or on the way. Anybody has any ideas? Would like to develop a system. |

| Some one else is already there. Have a look at:
http://www.webace.com.au/~sea_gyro/index.htm
This is a single, forced precession gyro to provide a roll countering torque.

| Tomas,
If the gyroscope strong enough it will actually stablize your boat and the idea is used already in warships and submarins but since it needs alot of power and space I don't think this type of heavy gyroscopes will suit small pleasure boats . However I would recommend an aircraft navigation gyroscope they are not that big and powerfull enough to stablize this type of boats even while facing high waves and you will also need the matching inverter for it and the connectors because I think you will need a small system that is battery operated and powered by the same generator that is used already on board. Drop me an email and I will send you pictures of my gyroscopes to let you know what I am talking about.
Regards,
Michael
