Question

Asked by: Andre
Subject: Adjusting a Tedco gyroscope
Question: I have a Tedco gyroscope that's not functioning as it should. When started it vibrates, makes noises and when put on a table or so a lot of contact noise from the gyroscope is heard. I tried to make some adjustments myself, but so far without results. Does anyone have a suggestion for adjusting the Tedco gyroscope ?

If the gyroscope is unbalanced (wobbles) then there is not really an easy way to fix it. The design of the Tedco gyroscope has remained almost unchanged for over 100 years and hence it’s quite simplistic e.g. plain bearings and butted together joints. I’m of the understanding that they were not moulded in the past like they are now. This may explain why some today are more unbalanced than others.
A little grease can be added to remove squeaks and other general noises but the Tedco gyroscope will rattle if placed on a hard surface. Putting it on a few pieces of paper will stop this.

The ‘deluxe’ and ‘precision’ don’t suffer from any of these issues.
