Question

Asked by: Cullen Phillips
Subject: gyros as counterweights
Question: Can a gyro be used as a constant counterweight? Can it produce forces greater than its own weight?

Example: I would like to put a 1000 lb weight on one side of a balance. On the other side, I would like to put a gyro that would weight about 50 lbs. Could a spinning gyro create enough force to balance the weight?

I have seen the dynaflex-intl.com website. It claims that their gyro can create up to 38 lbs of force with a ball gyro that weighs less than one pound. I need to create a counterweight for a lifting machine that requires it to be lightweight but produce a constant offsetting force for the lifting mechanism. It could be electrically or hydraulically powered and be in a fixed position. Is that possible?
