This is answered very well in a small book titled MECHANICS OF THE GYROSCOPE, 1929 by Richard F. Deimel. The math anaysis is done without vectors and is about 1 st year engineering school level. I do this professionally, and have found this an excellent volume to determine actual numerical results for actual flight problems. As far as I can tell this text is accurate in every respect, which is NOT the case for many modern volumes.
